The Philippine Science High School Southern Mindanao Campus, with the initiative of the Gender and Development Committee, embarked on gender and development (GAD) as one of its priority programs for this year.

One of the gender and development-related activities organized was a Reproductive Health Seminar entitled “Cervical Cancer: Decreasing the Burden” with Dr. Concepcion Damaso-Rayel as the resource speaker. This took place on October 1, 2014 at the PSHS-SMC Mini-auditorium and was attended by all the school’s personnel.

Then on November 3-5, 2014, a series of GAD-anchored events were realized and conducted at Grand Men Seng Hotel, Magallanes Street, Davao City, in response to the institution’s need for capability development on gender mainstreaming. The first one was the Training and Workshop on Gender Sensitivity wherein the resource speaker, Ms. Marita Castillo-Pimentel from Mirriam College, made the PSHS-SMC personnel take part in different gender sensitivity exercises such as “Understanding gender in WE”, “Gendered senses”, and “Valuing gender in our work: The 24 hr work-plan”.
