PSHS-SMC GFPS promotes Gender and Development Endeavors
In support of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and their Children which is observed annually from November 25 to December 12, the GAD Focal Point System Technical Working Group (GFPS-TWG) conducted series of activities that help promote the protection of the rights of women. The activities included the following: the GAD Capacity Development Program for the Grade 7 students where the GFPS members gave talks on Gender Sensitivity, orientation on R.A. 7877 (Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995), and an orientation on R.A. 9262 (Anti-Violence against Women and their Children Act). The orientations on these topics aimed to educate the students on the basic gender and development concepts, and to increase their level of awareness and understanding of the GAD-related laws of the land.
To further impress the importance of the campaign on the students, the members sponsored a song-writing and presenttion contest open to all year levels exploring the advocacy of anti-VAWC which was held last December 11, 2017.

PSHS- SMC Teachers Attend Seminar on Research Niche
Teachers from the different academic units gathered to attend the two-day seminar on Research Niche which was anchored on the theme Innovation for the Community, for the People: PSHSS on Identifying the Research Agenda per Region last November 6 – 7, 2017.
The seminar was organized by the PSHS Office of the Executive Director and was initiated by the Executive Director herself, Ms. Lilia Habacon who believes that every regional PSHS campus should establish a distinct niche for its research endeavors. The program on finding the campus' research niche aims to aid the teachers in carving out an area on research that will reflects the unique expertise of the campus and provide greater impact and relevance in the region and its people.

Moralde tops Philippine Science Olympiad National Eliminations
Grade nine Patricia Marielle Moralde was adjudged the top scorer during the Philippine Science Olympiad National Eliminations last September 9, 2017 held at Pantukan, Compostela Valley. Also, Patricia Marielle Moralde together with Revien Rodriguez (Grade 9) and Anne Felize Padillo's (Grade 10) collated individual scores emerged the highest thus placing PSHS-SMC as the top school in the ranking. The students were coached by Ms. Emma Mari Macavinta
The team will compete in the national level come September 30, 2017 in Quezon City.
PSHS – SMC Faculty bags Carlos Palanca Memorial Award for Literature
Mr. Mubarak Tahir received his Carlos Palanca Memorial Award for Literature during the 67th year awarding held last September 1, 2017at the Peninsula Manila, Makati. His essay entitled, "Aden Bon Besen Uyag-Uyag (May Buhay pa Pala)" wins 3rd place. Mr. Tahir is the first personnel from the Philippine Science High - Southern Mindanao Campus to receive an award from the most prestigious writing tilt in the country.
Pisay SMC students compete in the 6th Malaysia International Young Inventors Olympiad
Student-researchers from the Philippine Science High School -Southern Mindanao Campus (PSHS-SMC) participated in the 6th Malaysian International Young Inventors Olympiad (MIYIO) held last April 14 – 17, 2017 at Bukit Mertajam, Penang, Malaysia. This annual competition brings students from Asia and Europe to share their research outputs and to provide both students and teacher participants a venue to develop and explore novel trends in research.

Pisay joins Tsukuba Science Edge 2017
Ten students and two faculty members travelled to Tsukuba, Japan to attend the Tsukuba Science Edge 2017, a Science Research Conference participated by more than 1000 high school students all over the world.
Pisay SMC student gets recognition in UP Mindanao Essay Writing Contest
Frances Marie Caballero, of Grade 10 Neutron, won 3rd place in the first Mindanao-wide essay writing contest during the Lintunganay held last February 27. 2017 at the Abreeza Ayala Mall in Davao City. The contest was sponsored by the UP Omega Alpha Fraternity and UP Omega Alpha Sorority (UP Mindanao).
