The PSHS-Southern Mindanao Campus held its Baccalaureate and Graduation ceremony of Batch 2019 last May 23 at the school gymnasium. The event was graced by Dr. Danilo C. Lachica, guest speaker and President of the Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines Inc., Dr. Alan T.Ortiz, President of the SMC Global Power Holdings Corporation, San Miguel Corporation Dr. Ramon M. de Vera, President and CEO of the Mindanao Project Development Corporation, Ms. Lilia Habacon, PSHS-System Executive Director, the graduates, faculty and staff, families and friends.
The graduates, dubbed as “Dimapalong”, composed of 83 scholars who successfully finished the 6-year academic requirements of the Philippine Science High School System.
Dr. Lachica, during his inspirational speech, shared with the graduates that the Pisay core values of patriotism, integrity, service to nation, academic excellence, and youth leadership make it possible for one to succeed in life. He further challenged the graduates to be servant leaders and nation-builders, to always remember their humble beginnings even if they end up as President or Chairman of a company someday. Even so, he added, let not pride and arrogance possess them.
The ceremony ended with graduates’ original song rendition entitled “Apoy Nati’y Iisa.
This is the first time for Pisay to introduce the school and the students openly to the public. This is also our way of enticing graders to apply and soon enroll to PSHS.”

The Pisay Smart-up!, which was the culmination of the school’s Alternative Learning Assessments (ALAs) or clubs, served as its way of opening up to the public and exhibiting the talents and skills of its students while also advertising PSHS SMC to elementary school students and encouraging them to apply and eventually enroll. The event consisted of a city-wide quiz bee, essay writing contest, and impromptu speaking contest for elementary school students.
Fourteen public and private schools around Davao City participated in the event’s activities; these schools include the following: Bago Elementary School, Davao City Special School, Davao Christian High School (CPG Campus), Davao Christian High School (V.
