Campus Director Dr. Jonald Fenecios with his co-author Dr. Abraham Racca of the Adventist University of the Philippines published an article entitled “Equivalence of Lebesgue’s Theorem and Baire Characterization Theorem” that appears in Volume 28 Issue No. 2 pp. 158-163 (2022) of the Scopus-indexed Journal of the Indonesian Mathematical Society. The article provides a proof that links directly the well-known Lebesgue’s characterization of functions in the first Baire class and the Baire Characterization Theorem. Furthermore, the authors provide a new characterization of continuous functions. The journal article can be accessed at

When asked about the importance of research, Dr. Fenecios stressed that basic and theoretical research plays important roles in the overall scheme of technological development and innovation. According to him, pure research must be pursued since it provides necessary tools for applications to be born or discovered. It is in this light that Dr. Fenecios strongly encourages students, faculty, and personnel to engage in research and publication to cultivate the culture of innovation and to contribute to “pushing the boundaries of knowledge”.
