PSHS-SMC Teachers join PSHS System Curriculum Writeshop for the Specialization Years

Eight faculty members from the Philippine Science High School Southern Mindanao Campus
joined the PSHS sytem curriculum writeshop for grades 11 and 12 at the Lancaster Hotel, Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City last August 10-14, 2015. The five day workshop kicked off with an orientation of the system's plans for the specialization year by the chair of the Curriculum Core Group, Dr. Rod Allan De Lara and setting of the expectations for the writeshop by the RPAD Chief, Dr. Jessamyn Yazon.

Pisay Research teachers join Region XI's 5th Health R & D Expo

Research teachers, Dr. Rochelle Papasin and Dr. Cromwell Castillo, attended the The Regional Health Research and Development Consortium XI (RHRDC XI) 5th Health R&D Expo last July 30-31, 2015 at Grand Regal Hotel, Davao City. The event provided researchers and institutions of Region XI an apt venue to promote and showcase research results, particularly in the health category.
Aside from a number of plenary sessions distributed in two days, participants also witnessed or took part in Research and Poster Exhibit Competetions in either graduate or undergraduate category.
Established Research scientists led by the Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Hon. Mario G. Montejo, graced the said two-day event.
To Research educators and enthusiasts, the event proved to be very enriching and informative. “It showed me a clear philosophical distinction between qualitative research and quantitative research. Also, it made me realize that research in the Philippine Science High School is mostly quantitative”, Dr. Papasin said.
The expo was sponsored by the Regional Research and Health Consortium and was co-sponsored by DOST – PCRHD and DOST Regional Office XI.
PSHS-SMC students win 3rd Place in the International Regions Mathematics League (IRML) On-site Competition

PSHS-SMC, Davao City - Michaela Ronn G. Paclibar, Guinevere P. Soria, and Faith D. Villahermosa emerged third place winners of this year's On-site competition of the International Regions Mathematics League (IRML) held at the University of Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, last May 29 and 30, 2015. The On-site math tilt had four rounds namely: Team Round competition, Power Question, Individual Round and the Relay Round. The first Place and second place went, respectively, to Macau's Team 1 and China's Team 1.

CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY
A grade 6 elementary pupil from a duly recognized school by the Department of Education who meets the following criteria is eligible to apply for the PSHS National Competitive Examination (NCE).
He / She must:
- have a final grade of 85% or better in Science and Mathematics, evidenced by the student's report card. If the student's grades in Science or Math are below 85%, then, he/she must provide evidence that he/she belongs to the upper 10% of the batch;
- be a Filipino citizen with no pending or approved application as immigrant to any foreign country;
- be born on or after August 1, 2005;
- have at least a satisfactory rating (or its equivalent) in his/her Character Rating in his/her report card (SY 2018 - 2019);
- not have taken the PSHS NCE previously; and
- preferably, be in good health and fit to undergo a rigorous academic program.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Fully accomplished Application Form in two (2) copies
- Two (2) identical recent 1x1 ID pictures
- Non-refundable test fee (Php 100 for private schools, free for public schools)
- Certified true copy of report card (SY 2018 - 2019) by the class adviser / principal
- If the final grades in Science or Math are below 85%, certification or proof that the child belongs to the upper 10% of the batch
SCREENING PROCESS
Only one test will be administered, a scholastic aptitude test (known as National Competitive Examination) which is designed to measure Scientific Ability, Quantitative Ability, Abstract Reasoning, and Verbal Aptitude. The NCE will be administered on October 19, 2019.
APPLICATION PROCESS
The PSHS NCE Application Form and the accompanying material are not for sale, may be photocopied, and may be downloadedthrough this link. No reservation fee is required.
Application forms are also available and may be filed at any of the following: PSHS campuses, DOST Regional offices, or Provincial Science and Technology Offices. Application forms with incomplete information will not be processed. Erasures, alterations and insertions must be initialed by the applicant.
The Examination Permit/s will be issued to the applicants upon completion of all documents by the campus where the application was processed. For applications filed with DOST agencies, the exam permits will be mailed to the applicant, or to the School Principal for distribution to its applicant/s.
In case the exam permits are not received two (2) weeks before the examination day, the applicants should check with the nearest PSHS campus, DOST Regional Office, DOST Provincial Science and Technology Office, or the PSHS System Admissions Office.
